What is a blasting mat or BLAST MAT?

A blasting mat is made from heavy truck tires tire treads that are connected by strong but flexible galvanized steel wire and is designed to allow gas and air pressure to exist but keep blast materials such as flow rock below the blast mat cover.

Lifetime of the blasting mat

We are often asked: What is the lifetime of your blasting mat?

The life of a blasting mat depends on how you design your blasts. If you rely only on the blasting mats to stop flyrock, no mat will last long. If you design so that flyrock is not created in the first place, with the mats only as “insurance”, the mats will last a long time – a year or more sometimes.

With flyrock, prevention is better than interception!

This is the answer we received from our main customer in Hong Kong after forwarding the same question. This company acquired more than 500 tons of blasting mats from us. They are still used on various sites in Hong Kong area.
